Therapeutic Approach
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in infant and early childhood mental health. I also treat adolescents and adults. As a therapist, I work to help children and families grow together. I work in conjunction with parents to support the needs of their child or adolescent. Our work together will be shaped by the individual needs of each client. Often, I combine individual treatment for the child, parent consultation, dyadic work with the child and caregiver(s), and family therapy. The therapeutic process and our relationship will help to bring awareness and understanding to each particular challenge.
My work as psychotherapist draws from ecological, pyschodynamic, and relationship-based perspectives. My background is strongly influenced by the Family Support perspective. Family Support is strength and prevention-based approach to psychotherapy that underscores the importance of promoting healthy family functioning. Family support recognizes that we as individuals are part of many systems (family, school, work, neighborhood, religion, community). The interdependent relationship between these systems impacts the way children and adults interact thus impacting and shaping growth. Often children and parents face challenges together. Key to any challenge is navigating relationships whether it is relationship with one's self, parents, siblings, teachers, peers, or members of the community.
In my work, I understand that families come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Most importantly, each family has their own definition of "family." Our work together will explore your individual and family values, what works for your child and family; and, what areas your child and family would like to see change. Families are made of individuals with rich histories, varying cultures, diverse religious beliefs and together, we will uncover your child and family narrative in hopes to identify new paths while reflecting on how your child and family would like to grow. Overall, our work together aims to help the child, adolescent, and/or adult(s) experience a greater sense of well-being through the process of reflection.
